Statement of the Assembly of Experts on the Appointment of the Third Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran
In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Honorable and noble people of the Islamic Republic of Iran — may God’s peace and blessings be upon you.
The Assembly of Experts extends its condolences on the martyrdom of the great leader, Grand Ayatollah Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei (may his pure soul be sanctified), and other esteemed martyrs, particularly the high-ranking commanders and courageous members of the armed forces, as well as the students of the Tree of Purity School in Minab. The Assembly strongly condemns the barbaric aggression of the criminal United States and the malignant Zionist regime.
Following the announcement of the martyrdom and heavenly ascension of the wise and discerning Leader of the Islamic Revolution, and despite severe wartime conditions and direct threats against this popular institution — including the bombing of the Assembly’s Secretariat offices resulting in the martyrdom of several staff and security personnel — the Assembly of Experts, in accordance with its constitutional duties and internal regulations, proceeded without delay to initiate the process of selecting and appointing the new Leader.
Appropriate measures and coordination were therefore taken to convene an extraordinary session with the attendance of members from across the country, ensuring that — despite the temporary leadership council provisions in Article 111 of the Constitution — the nation would not face a vacuum of leadership.
The Assembly of Experts, while honoring the high status of Velayat-e Faqih (Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist) during the Occultation of the Promised Savior (may God hasten his reappearance), and affirming the critical importance of leadership in the Islamic Republic, pays tribute to 47 years of wise governance by the two Leaders of the Revolution based on dignity, independence, and national strength. The Assembly, after comprehensive examination and consultation under Article 108 of the Constitution, and guided by religious duty and faith in God Almighty, hereby appoints Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei (may God preserve him) as the third Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran with the decisive vote of its members.
In conclusion, the Assembly expresses its gratitude to the members of the Temporary Leadership Council (Article 111) and calls upon the noble people of Iran — particularly scholars and intellectuals of seminaries and universities — to pledge allegiance to the new leadership and to preserve unity around the axis of Velayat (the Guardianship).
May divine grace and protection continue to bless this nation and its great people.

مجلس خبرگان رهبری، ضمن عرض تسلیت شهادت قائد عظیم الشٱن حضرت آیتالله العظمی امام خامنهای (قدس الله نفسه الزکیه) سایر شهدای گرانقدر به ویژه فرماندهان والامقام و جان برکف نیروهای مسلح و دانش آموزان مدرسه شجره طیبه شهرستان میناب و محکوم نمودن تجاوز وحشیانه آمریکای جنایتکار و رژیم خبیث صهیونیستی به استحضار میرساند این مجلس بلافاصله پس از انتشار خبر شهادت و عروج ملکوتی رهبر فرزانه و حکیم انقلاب اسلامی علی رغم شرایط حاد جنگی و تهدیدات مستقیم دشمنان علیه این نهاد مردمی و بمباران دفاتر دبیرخانه مجلس خبرگان رهبری که به شهادت چند تن از کارکنان و تیم حراست این مجموعه منجر شد، لحظهای در فرآیند انتخاب و معرفی رهبری نظام اسلامی درنگ ننموده و حسب وظایف مندرج در قانون اساسی و آیین نامه داخلی مجلس خبرگان، تدابیر و تمهیدات لازم جهت برگزاری اجلاس فوقالعاده و معرفی رهبر جدید را در دستور کار خود قرار داد و لذا برنامه ریزیهای مناسب و هماهنگیهای لازم جهت اجتماع نمایندگان محترم این مجلس که در اقصی نقاط کشور حضور دارند انجام گرفت تا علی رغم پیشبینیهای هوشمندانه در اصل ۱۱۱ قانون اساسی برای تشکیل شورای موقت، کشور دچار خلأ رهبری نگردد.
مجلس خبرگان رهبری با ارج نهادن به جایگاه والای ولایت فقیه در عصر غیبت حضرت ولیعصر (عجل الله تعالی فرجه الشریف) و اهمیت مسئله رهبری در نظام جمهوری اسلامی، ۴۷ سال حکمرانی حکیمانه و مبتنی بر اصل عزت، استقلال و اقتدارِ امامین انقلاب را پاس میدارد و ضمن گرامیداشت یاد آن رهبران الهی و مردمی اعلام میدارد این مجلس پس از بررسیهای دقیق و گسترده و استفاده از ظرفیت اصل ۱۰۸ قانون اساسی، مطابق وظیفه شرعی و اعتقاد به حضور در محضر خداوند متعال، در اجلاسیه فوقالعاده امروز آیتالله سیدمجتبی حسینی خامنهای (حفظه الله) را بر اساس رٱی قاطع نمایندگان محترم مجلس خبرگان رهبری به عنوان سومین رهبر نظام مقدس جمهوری اسلامی ایران، تعیین و معرفی مینماید.
در پایان با قدردانی از اعضای شورای موقتِ اصل ۱۱۱ قانون اساسی، همه ملت شریف ایران به ویژه نخبگان و فرهیختگان حوزه و دانشگاه را به بیعت با رهبری و حفظ انسجام، حول محور ولایت، دعوت میکند و استمرار لطف و عنایت حضرت باری تعالی بر این کشور و مردم بزرگ را از محضر ربوبیاش مسئلت مینماید.
